4 How did HISD and HCC decide on program themes?
Based program selection on labor market projected job growth in the Gulf Coast region All programs are considered high-growth & high-demand Data obtained from Workforce Solutions & Bureau of Labor Statistics

5 Spring 2012: Cohort I Each school had 3 months to recruit students into their program Parent night presentations Tested students on Compass exam Student informational nights Five programs started college level dual credit courses summer 2012 Jane Long started HCC’s Health Care Academy with Freshman fall 2012 Each campus recruited between students to take part in this new and innovative program

6 Year 1 Program Objectives
Provide students with meaningful and engaging project-based assignments Associate degree earned by August after the senior year of high school Valuable industry certifications embedded into the coursework Preparation to move directly into the workforce after graduation or on to pursue additional education at a college or university Technology-rich college atmosphere Industry mentors and internships

The Academy of Manufacturing Engineering Technology at Washington The Academy of Engineering Technology at Furr The Academy of Process Technology at Kashmere The Academy of Network & Computer Administration at Scarborough The Academy of Pharmacy Technology at Long The Academy of Global Supply & Logistics at Sterling

8 Summer 2013: Expansion Westside HS
The Academy of Health Sciences at Westside was created in the summer 2013. Becomes first FUTURES Associate in Science degreed program Partnership between UT MD Anderson School of Health Professions

9 Year 2: 2013-2014 LABEL Cohort II began dual credit courses
Jones High School added as a Futures Academy program Jane Long Academy, Westside, and Jones started dual credit courses Career and Technical Education Department held first annual “Field Experience Week” and “Re-launch” event HISD received Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Early College High School grant to expand Futures Academy to include Worthing HS LABEL

10 Year 3: 2014-2015 Welcomed the Academies at Jones
Business partnerships for each Academy Individualized support from Senior Program Specialists Extensive college readiness training and tutoring Strategic marketing and recruiting HCC instructor professional development and orientation Linked field experience opportunities

11 HISD Branding and New Logo
Effort to improve a consistent and recognizable brand in line with the school district New logos have been created for each Academy as well in this similar style

13 Fall 2015: Expansion Worthing HS
Proposed program expansion to Worthing HS beginning Fall 2015 Associate Degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management Partnership developing with the University of Houston Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management Additional opportunities with Admiral Capital Group Hospitality program Partnership could allow students to pursue their bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston upon completion of the Futures Academy program and high school graduation

14 Proposed Fall 2015: Expansion
Worthing HS The Hotel/Restaurant Management AAS program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level management positions in the hospitality industry Students acquire a broad base of knowledge and skills for a successful career in a challenging service business environment Industry growth projections range from 10.5% to 35.1% Entrepreneurship courses will be incorporated into program during freshman and sophomore year
