Reading Habits of Faculty Members in Polytechnic Colleges in Punjab: A case study of Adesh and Bhai Maha Singh Polytechnic Colleges Muktsar (Punjab). INTRODUCTION Reading habits are the intellectual activities for giving more information, knowledge and learn to various type of things and their activities. Reading Habits means behavior which express the lightness of reading of individual, which occur regularly of leisure reading pproach, type of reading tastes of reading & use of library services (1). Reading habit is an active skill – based process of constructing meaning and gaining knowledge from oral, visual and written text. (2) Reading habits are the main area of the Librarian and information scientists to know the use of library recourses and services. The present article is a questionnaire-based study of the reading habits of facility members in Adesh and Bhai Maha Singh Polytechnics, uktsar. To complete this study a questionnaire has designed for the faculty of both Polytechnic Colleges to know their professional requirements their educational qualifications, Psychological needs etc have been studied. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The Objectives of the study were as under: - The Objectives of the study were as under: - To find out the types of Literature being read by the faculty members To find out the types of Literature being read by the faculty members To identify the effects of subject background on the reading habits of faculty members. METHODOLOGY To complete the study a questionnaire was designed and distributed among the faculty members. The study was limited to find the reading habits of faculty members of Adesh and Bhai Maha Singh Polytechnic Colleges Muktsar (Pb). The data analysis and interpretation is based an a sample of 55 faculty members only selected respondents out of three categories viz. Professors, Assistant Professors and Lectures of all departments such as CSE, EE, ECE, IT & Mech. To complete the study a questionnaire was designed and distributed among the faculty members. The study was limited to find the reading habits of faculty members of Adesh and Bhai Maha Singh Polytechnic Colleges Muktsar (Pb). Data analysis and interpretation. Faculty wise distribution of respondents out of the total strength of 55 only 50 (90%) members responded.

Table-3 Average Library Visits. Average Library Visits The study shows in Table 3 that 29.3% of faculty was visits in the library fortnightly. 24.7 % daily and 7 % more than once a day. However Majority of the faculty members (38.4) visits the library weekly. Use of information sources The study shows in the Table four that mostly faculty members in both Polytechnics use 43.11 % Journals for getting technical and scientific information. However conference and seminars are also good sources for getting information. General discussion and other sources provided information 13.77 % and 10.09 % respectively. In other sources the faculty members uses the microfiche, online databases, electronics databases and CD Rom etc.

Research and work in the technical field is highly competitive and any attempt to selectively deliver information resources from the information flood will undoubtedly enhance use and boost output leading to the improvement of technical senses only. (6) The study on reading habits of faculty members in Adesh and Bhai Maha Singh Polytechnic Colleges in Muktsar (Punjab) shows that the faculty members in both the polytechnic case maximum library facility to fulfill their information needs for their teaching and research work etc. The also depend up on their personal collection as well as Internet services. It also find the mostly of the faculty members visits the library a weekly basis and their daily. The study also shows that most of the faculty members in both polytechnic libraries use maximum journals/magazine and electronic resources for their information needs and meet to the teaching and research requirements.
