What about out-of-state schools? All are different! Many require an 18 in English and/or a 22 in Math You must research the admissions requirements of each school.

What if I do not have an 18 in English and a 19 in Math? You will not be accepted into LSU, ULL, UNO, or La Te ch Oh no! Is there anything I can do? Take Dvt English or math next semester via Dual Enrollment

What is Dual Enrollment?  Dual Enrollment (DE) is the opportunity to take a college class while in high school.  The grade in the class counts on both your high school and your future college transcript.

Who can take what type of DE class? 3 types of DE classes: ACT/PLAN EnglMath Reading Degree-Level College Classes: 18 18 19 17 ex: English 101 Enrichment/Developmental: 15/14 ex: Dvt math or English Work Skills Classes: 15/ 14 ex: machinery, welding, administrative asst.

How will DE classes help me? Work Skills – Provide training in a technical field while I still am in high school! Degree-level classes – Provide degree-level college credit before I even get to college! Developmental classes - Allow me a second chance of entering a LA four-year school! next slide…

You mean I still can attend? If a student has a developmental need (i.e. did not score an 18 in English or 19 in math), the student can take the Dvt class while still in high school, and if the student earns a qualifying score, he/she still may be admitted to a LA four-year school! Regional: “C” or better in Dvt class Statewide: “C” or better in Dvt class LSU: “B” or better in Dvt class No guarantees, but makes admission a possibility!

Where can I take a DE class? You can take classes on the college campus, including but not limited to the following schools:  Delgado  Nunez  UNO  Xavier  Loyola  Tulane  SUNO

Apply and Pay See counselor for appropriate DE application Student and parent complete and sign application Turn in to Counselor Office Must write on the application the class(es) you wish to take and where you wish to take it/them. Student may need to take a placement test on the college campus before the class begins. Did we mention if you qualify, you can take the DE class tuition free??? See next slide…

8(g) funding  Refers to the funding offered by the state of LA for public high school students to pay for Dual Enrollment classes.  Pays tuition for one class (3 credit hours) per semester  Usually juniors or seniors who meet certain ACT/PLAN score requirements ACT/PLANEnglMath Reading Degree-Level Classes: 1818 19 17 ex: English 101 Enrichment/Developmental: 15/14 ex: Dvt math or English Work Skills Classes: 15/ 14 ex: machinery, welding, administrative asst.

Anything else I can do? What if I do not take a needed Dvt class via DE and I do not ever score and18 in English and/or a 19 in math? Take the COMPASS placement test, a miniature version of the ACT. Take on college campus like Delgado CC (671-5000, $15) Untimed! Many colleges will accept a “passing” score on the Compass instead of the 18 Eng/19 math

Interested? See your counselor for a DE application and for help getting started! Judy.lee@theacsa.org Patrick.tubbins@theacsa.org Tamara.gibson@theacsa.org Natalie.derham@theacsa.org Or call a local campus if you choose to take the COMPASS test now! (Delgado CC, 671-5000)
