Goals For Today By the end of today’s session you should: 1. Know how to access STAR from anywhere 2. Be provided a walkthrough of the All Activities View menu 3. Be shown helpful tips and tricks for using STAR 4. Have a good understanding of where basic activities go 5. Have a working knowledge of the STAR Data Grid 6. Understand how to generate the STAR Reports 7. Be able to find 2 levels of online help within STAR 8. Be shown where to find additional resources on the Portal 9. Have a basic understanding of the UWO Standard CV view 10. Know who to contact for help with STAR

Logging Into STAR https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/star/ https://star.schulich.uwo.ca 1.Install Firefox if it is not already on your computer. 2.Add these two sites to your bookmark toolbar 3.Disable Pop-Up Blocker for the STAR application 4.Check with your Coordinator if you need a password

Tips and Tricks If the buttons ‘disappear’ in the data grid… Check to see if the double scrollbars are offset If you enter a record and do not see it in the data grid… Check to see if you have data filters set prohibiting you from seeing all data records. Follow NLM standards for Publications & Presentations Hover over ? Button to see a review of NLM NLM = National Library of Medicine

Entering Dates What Dates to Enter: – If the event happened on a single day - put the same date into both Start Date and End Date fields. – If the event happened several times during the year – put academic year start and end dates in STAR.

Importing Data Records In The Stack of Buttons: – Import button Enables fast entry of long lists of publications or presentations Data must follow NLM standards Call Your STAR Coordinator or Faculty Admin if you need assistance

Exporting Data Records In The Stack of Buttons: – To Excel button This feature allows the user to export the grid viewing pages to an excel file so that the data can be sorted and manipulated One way export – you cannot import any changes made in an exported Excel list

Bulk Editing Just above Data Grid: – Bulk Edit located just above the data grid Allows the user to edit multiple records simultaneously Speeds up data entry Call your STAR Coordinator or Faculty Admin if you need assistance
