Starting up X-Media Manager Double click on the X-Media Manager icon from your Desktop. You will need to find players on the network to connect to, click on ‘Find Players’. This will search the Network for Players and list them below.

You can add a description against this player (e.g Reception), high light the player and in the ‘Description’ box re-type the name you want to connect to and click ‘SET’. If unsuccessful in finding Players, you can add them in manually. Click on ‘Add New’. Type the name of the player (X-Media Machine name or IP Address) and click on ‘Add’. You can change the description and then click on ‘Set’. Click on the red cross to close. Select the X-Media Machine you wish to connect to (if there is more than one). You can set this player as a default by ticking the box.

Connecting to X-Media Manager Double click on the X-Media Manager icon from your Desktop. If you have more than one X-Media machine, you can select the Media machine to connect to. Click on File and select Connect. Use the drop down arrow to select the Media Machine and click ‘OK’. This will then open up X-Media Manager.

Layout Manager The Layout Manager is where you can create and manage your layouts. The Layout shown with a green tick indicates the layout that is currently displaying on your LCD screen(s); this is your ‘Default Layout’.

Creating a New Layout Click on ‘New Layout’, this will create a blank layout. Right click over the new created layout and select ‘Re-name Layout’. Once entered a new Layout name, click on ‘OK’ to save.

Double click on the Layout you have just created. This opens up a blank layout. From the right-hand side of the screen, you will see a ‘List of Zones’, this is where you create zones to position in your layout and then assign media. Click on ‘New’ to create a new zone. Using the mouse, drag the first zone in the layout area to another section of the page. Hover the mouse on the edge of the Zone box to see a double arrow ( ); then drag your box to re-size the Zone. N.b: Repeat this process to add further zones onto the Layout. (We recommend you have no more than 5 zones in 1 layout as it can look untidy, keep it simple!)

Once zones have been positioned in the layout, you can go into each layout and assign media to them. By double clicking on a Zone, the Properties of the selected zone will appear below. Using the drop down arrow, select the Zone Type for each zone (e.g. Video, Images, Scrolling Text, Flash, RSS Feed, Web Page or Fixed Text).

For each zone click on ‘Assign Media’. In the ‘Available Media’ column, is a list indicating all the media that is available for use. By clicking once on each file, a preview of that file will appear in the middle column. If you ‘double click’ or use the button, this will assign that file to the right-hand column called your ‘Playlist’. You can repeat this for all the Media you want to assign to your Playlist.

N.b: Assigning media is only applicable for Images, Videos, Scrolling Text and Flash. For each zone created, these steps need to be repeat, firstly by selecting the Zone Type. To remove a file from the Playlist, click on the media from the right hand side and use the button. To ‘order’ the Playlist (e.g. put them in order of category); use the up & down arrows. When you are happy with the Media selection, click on ‘Save Playlist’. Then click ‘OK’ to confirm that the Playlist has been saved. Then click on ‘Exit’.

When ‘Video’ is selected you have the option to mute/un-mute the player and to Shuffle Media (meaning this will play your selected video assigned media in random order). When ‘Scrolling Text’ is selected, you have the option to change the font, text size, background & text color, direction you want the text to appear and speed of scrolling. When ‘RSS Feed’ is selected, this will allow you to copy a web link (e.g. BBC RSS news page). You have the option to change the font, text size, background & text color, direction you want the text to appear and speed of scrolling. Zone Types

When ‘Web Page’ is selected you can use a web page link to view. N.b The view of the web page is dependent of the zone size. When ‘Fixed Text’ is selected, from here you are able to create a static message (e.g. ‘Please switch off your mobile phone’). You have the option to change font, size, color of text & background and position of the text.

When you are happy with your layout, click on ‘Save Layout’, then click on ‘Exit Layout’. If you ‘Right Click’ with your mouse over your layout, you can now select ‘Set as Default’ to display on your LCD Screen. Once you have set up your Zones and assigned Media, by clicking on ‘Preview’ you can see what you have designed. This will give you a full screen preview of your layout from the PC you are working at. To go back to the Layout Designer screen, double click on ‘Jayex Technology Ltd’ at the bottom left hand corner.

Media Manager Media Manager is where you locate and manage all of your media files and documents, you can also add your own media files. Click on the ‘Media Manager’ tab to view your Media Library. By selecting the relevant media sub folder (left hand side) click on ‘Open Media Library’. For example select ‘Video’ and click on ‘Open Media Library’ which will open the folder from your X-Media PC. From here you can add further Video’s (copy and paste from another location if necessary). N.b Videos can be in ‘mpg’ or ‘avi’, Images must be in ‘JPEG’ and Flash must be in ‘SWF’ format.

To add further ‘Text’ (e.g. for scrolling), from the Media Manager tab select ‘Text’ from the Media Library sub folder. Click on ‘Add/Edit’ and type the title of your new text heading and click on ‘Save’. When saved this will appear in the middle column. Using the mouse, click on ‘Add/Edit’ and select the new created text heading (e.g. ‘Welcome’), this will appear in the ‘File Name’. You can edit your text in the right hand box and click on ‘Save’. Adding ‘Text’

Scheduler The Scheduler can be used to manage your Layouts and play at selected days and times per week. For example if you have a Baby Clinic that operates on Thursday Morning, you can create a layout specific to that clinic with posters and video clips, and schedule to run on your LCD screen without having to remember to switch to the default layout. By clicking on the ‘Scheduler’ tab, a table will appear. Along the top is your 24 hour clock, and the left-hand side are days of the week. To use the Scheduler, make sure you have clicked on ‘Enable Scheduling’. Each cell is to the value of 15 minutes. As you hover your mouse over each cell, it will indicate the day and time at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

The example below is setting up for a Thursday Morning Baby Clinic… Click on the cell from when clinic opens (e.g. 9am) and that will go yellow, continue selecting 15 minute time slots until the Baby Clinic finishes (e.g. 12pm). Then assign a Layout to that Scheduled time and click on ‘SET’ This will mark the cells in Red meaning they are used. Nb. By hovering the mouse over the red cells, from the bottom left hand corner of the screen will show the layout you have assigned.

Where a layout hasn’t been assigned to the scheduler (green cells), the Media Player will default to the ‘default layout’ assigned in the Layout Manager. To delete a scheduled layout, click on the red time slots that you wish to delete, this will change them to Black. Click on the ‘SET’ button and this will mark them back to green (your default layout). A pop up message will appear against each of the time slots you wish to delete, click ‘Yes’ to confirm deletion of that cell.
