A garbage man (is also called a garbage collector or sanitation worker) is a maintenance professional. He/she collects waste along designated routes within a municipality, emptying refuse receptacles into the truck he/she is driving.

A garbage man/woman drives a garbage truck or has a co worker that drives. He/she removes refuse materials from commercial, industrial, and residential areas The garbage man/woman sorts refuse that is recyclable(cans, newspapers, glass, ect…) and incinerates the rest(leftovers, and non-recyclables).

We collect and load refuse on garbage trucks in order to keep the environment clean. This is what the sign on the truck says: Last year we recycled enough paper to save over 41 million trees.

Waste collectors are exposed to many On-The-Job hazards, such as chemical burns, disposable needles, broken glass, falling objects from overloaded containers, diseases that may accompany solid waste, asbestos, dog-attacks, pests (ants, flies, cockroaches, rodents), dust, inclement weather, traffic and foul odors (ladies dislike foul odors). Asbestos is a set of six naturally occurring silicate minerals that are use in fire retardant materials.

Several weeks of on the job training is provided. Most recent entrants have a community college diploma. I erased some of the info on the diploma.

Employment rate grew at an average rate. The number of job seekers will likely match the number of job openings. It might be true you never know what's in a garbage can

These earnings are close to the average occupations in the trades, transport and equipment operators sector and above average for all laboring and elemental occupations. Average hourly earnings: 16.69 an hour Outlook: fair Average unemployment: 10%

There have been a few changes in the garbage system: we now recycle broken computers, paint cans, plastic bags, old books, printer ink containers, and other unwanted electronics. Scrap metal has also become a recyclable (junk cars, broken metal). It is melted down and reused in many things. Technology wont affect this job because it all manually operated. (unless we get hover trucks!?)

Work safely- do not get hand suck in compacter because it will not come back Learn continuously- on the job training Work with others- understanding and working with your driver/co worker Participate in projects and tasks- that if you live in a small city like Kimberley, and not like Calgary Communicate- listen and ask questions to fully understand what your co worker is telling you
