No risk of organ rejection, which can result in death even on medication. Haemodialysis machines can be used at home. No dependance immunosuppressant drugs. Painless. Side effects usually fade after a few treatments. Many workers can go to work as usual.

Dependant on a machine – little freedom. Usually only a temporary solution, it does not solve the problem. Must be done three times a week, or even daily. Each session takes 3-4 hours. Expensive. Can have side effects. Have to have a special diet.

Permanent solution. If it works, it fixes the problem, despite the dependence on drugs. Special diet, but less restricting than dialysis. Patients can often lead near normal lives.

The organ can be rejected. The patient will be dependant on immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of their lives. Waiting lists are often very long. Can be painful.
