The Kidney
3
Why do our Kidney’s Fail? Kidney failure develops when the kidney becomes less effective at filtering out waste products, water and salt from the blood
4
Figure 1: The Association Between Creatinine and Kidney Function ( This figure plots the amount of kidney function as calculated by the Cockcroft-Gault formula for a 55-year-old white male.)
5
Statistics and cost 26 million American adults have CKD and millions of others are at increased risk $44,000 per year per patient spent on Dialysis In 2007, Medicare spent $8.6 billion on the treatment and medication of dialysis patients Medical cost of kidney transplant averages around $262,900

Mission Statement We at DZAB are advocates for life. Many doubts surround stem cell research, however in reality it may be one of the most effective and natural way of curing, many diseases today. What better way to heal the body than with natural cells that one is ultimately made up of. At DZAB Medical Inc. we are taking medicine and innovation to the next step in developing the first functional adult size kidney from stem cells.
7
Stem Cell Research
8
Types of stem cells (All stem cells regardless of their source have three general properties: they are capable of dividing and renewing themselves for long periods; they are unspecialized; and they can give rise to specialized cell types.) Embryonic stem cells Somatic “Adult” stem cells
9
Why must we develop an Adult size kidney? “British scientists have created human kidneys from stem cells …..They are currently half a centimetre in length - the same size as kidneys found in an unborn baby”-The Telegraph

The transplant Biocompatibility Medical advances Before
12
Post-surgery treatment and maintenance Post-surgical treatment would be the same as any other surgery involving a transplant: Post-surgery treatment after heart bypass Sixteen of the patients were infused with stem cells Fourteen patients showed the heart pumped efficiency from 30%-40% after 100 days To maintain any transplant one must Reduce or avoid stress Avoid sugar rich food Avoid tobacco and alcohol In order to keep the body healthy, and prevent any further complications
13
Natural kidney’s vs. stem celled kidney Developing a kidney from stem cells allows it to has the same functions as any kidney that a healthy person possess. Nephron Renal vein Renal artery Renal medulla Renal vein Interlobular artery and vein Nephron Tubules Ureter Renal cortex Renal pelvis Arcuate artery and vein
