10. Cholecystectomy (Choley) Medical Management or Surgery –Cholecystectomy Course in hospital –Elective → OR → 24 hour admit Precautions/Contraindica tions –Vital signs –Pain levels

Renal Failure Medical Management or Surgery –Acute (trauma, meds, infection) and Chronic (DM, HTN) Renal Failure The kidneys play key roles in body function, not only by filtering the blood and getting rid of waste products, but also by balancing levels of electrolytes (Na & K) in the body, controlling blood pressure, and stimulating the production of red blood cells. Pre-Renal: Decreased blood supply to the kidney, low blood volume, dehydration, diuretics Renal causes : Sepsis, UTI, Meds, Rhabdomyolysis, Myeloma, Glomerulonephritis Post-Renal: Obstruction of the bladder or ureters, BPH, HTN, kidney stones –Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Course in hospital –Emergency → General Floor –Dialysis on any unit Precautions/Contraindications –BP issues: usually very low post dialysis –Usually no patient contact during dialysis
