1 2 3 4 5 6 A B C 1 - - Softens and moistens food, saliva begins breaking down starchy foods into sugar. Mouth 2 - - smooth muscular tube through which food passes from the mouth to the stomach. Esophagus 3 - - Where food is stored and broken down by acids into a liquid form. Stomach 4 - - Where nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream by capillaries in the villi which make up the inner lining of the small intestine. Small Intestines 5 - - Where any remaining water from the food is absorbed into the body. Large Intestines 6 - - Where the remaining waste from the food is stored before it is removed from the body. Colon A - - Produces bile which is stored in the gall bladder and is used to help break down fats. Liver B - - Stores bile which is made by the liver and which helps to break down fats. Gall Bladder C - - Produces chemicals which neutralize stomach acid. Pancreas
