BIKE SAFETY The number-one way to stay safe while riding a bicycle is to always wear a helmet. Head injuries cause 70 to 80 percent of the deaths from bicycle accidents.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY Cross streets only at crosswalks. Don’t jaywalk. Obey all traffic signals. Wear bright clothing during the day. Wear reflective gear and carry a flashlight at night. Walk on the sidewalk if there is one. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing oncoming traffic.

RECREATIONAL SAFETY Be Attentive to Weather In Electrical StormsOn Hot DaysOn Cold Days Try to find shelter in a building or a car. Drink plenty of water. Stay in the shade if possible. Do not do any strenuous exercise. Dress in warm layers. Stay dry.

WATER SAFETY Learn to swim if you don’t know how. Never swim alone. Always use a life jacket when boating or waterskiing. In a strong current, swim parallel to the shore. Swim toward the shore when the current lessens. Never dive into water unless you know it is at least 9 feet deep and free of obstacles.

HIKING AND CAMPING SAFETY Before you go hiking or camping, you should: Check the weather forecast and take the necessary clothing and equipment. Let an adult know where you will be going and when you plan to return.
