“Faith without works is dead” Which question is James addressing? Is a person’s faith real or not? Is a Christian’s faith useful or not? Evaluating if we are going to heaven Evaluating the obedience of our life on earth

PaulJames For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the law (Rom. 3:28) You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone (James 2:24) Justified = “pronounced righteous” in the sight of God Justified = “proved righteous” in sight of others How an unbeliever becomes a Christian How believers should live as a Christians The “root” of salvationThe “fruit” of salvation Inward choiceOutward actions Chuck Swindoll, New Testament Insights Two Kinds of “Justification” according to Paul and James

Paul: Justified by faith, not works (Romans 4:3-5) What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." …to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Two “Justifications” (James 2:24 – NKJ Version) You see then that a man is justified by works, and not [justified] by faith only. Not, Justified by Faith plus Works But, Justified by faith and Justified by works.

Rahab’s legacy of faith (Matthew 1:5) Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. (Hebrews 11:31) By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. (James 2:25) In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?
