Why do authors and illustrators plant clues in text and pictures? How do you make meaning from clues as you read? You think and search for links between key words, pictures and your own knowledge to make meaning.

Teams or pairs of children…  Look carefully at the picture and read the text.  Search for key who, what, where information.  Highlight or circle any clues that you can find in the picture and in the text.

What has the girl been doing in the kitchen? How do you know that? Mum. Mum. Fluffy has been eating the cake ! 2. Is she being truthful about Fluffy eating the cake? What evidence is there for saying this? Use these clues to help you answer the following questions. Try asking your own detective question. Highlight the word clues in the questions. Link these key words to clues in the picture and text.

SPECtacular Enquiry Activity 2B – Looking for Evidence Silkworms (2) Look at the picture carefully and read the text. These caterpillars are usually called silkworms. They love mulberry leaf. It is the only thing they eat. They eat so much and so fast they have to shed their skins. Then they grow newer, bigger skins. They do this four times before they are grown up.
