The evening is full of sights, sounds and special effects featuring the tradition of the Ball lowering in Times Square. Thousands of people come to watch this special events. The ball is lowered at midnight. Although the first Times Square celebration was held in 1904, the first ball was lowered in 1907 and has been a tradition ever since Sample B January 2, 1999 What a night to remember! My parents took me to New York for our winter break. We were staying through New Year’s to watch all the excitement taking place in the city. We got to Times Square very early on New Year’s eve.
