Brainstorming – Factors that determine a country’s developing status What makes a country developed or developing? What criteria should we use to judge? What parameters should we use of such criteria?

Discussion Questions 1. Which countries do we generally think of as highly industrialized?

Discussion Questions 2. Name several countries that have a high percentage of their workforce participating in agriculture.

Discussion Questions 3. Name a country that has a high percentage of its workforce participating in services?

Discussion Questions Hypothesize which countries you think will be classified as developed and developing?

Lesson Vocabulary Industry – manufacturing of hard or soft goods. Services – Duties paid for that do not result in receiving a good. Examples: Barber, Lawyer, Doctor, Mechanic, Banker Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the value of all goods and services produced in the country in one year. GDP per capita – GDP divided by the population of a given country. Not an estimate of personal income.
