ALIENS, EXOTIC PLANETS, FTL, SPACESHIPS Sci-fi authors write about aliens who are extraterrestrials. These ETs may or may not be anthropomorphic. Although many alien species have arms and legs, some lack these appendages: Abyormenites, Black Clouds, Cryers, Dextrans, Medusans, Mothers, Old Galactics, Old Ones, Polarians, Sirians, Slash, Soft Ones, Solaris, Thing (in its natural state), Tyreeans and Uchjinians. (These aliens are all in Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials.) Exotic planets often have strange atmospheres, sentient plants, symbiotic entities and varying civilization levels. FTL (faster than light) engines are more the norms than the exceptions when science fiction writers refer to spaceships’ engines. AbyormenitesMedusans
