Sentence Fragments

Because my cat loves it. (so what ?) Since he came to New York. (what has been doing?) Unless you see me. (what will happen?) These sentences have incomplete ideas and end too quickly. They are called sentence fragments.

Sentence fragment Sentence fragment is a sentence that lacks a subject or a verb or is not a complete idea. It fails to be a sentence in the sense that it cannot stand by itself.

Sentence fragment Example # 1: He in the garden. He plays in the garden. It is missing a main verb

Sentence fragment Example # 2: John extra hard on his book lately. John has been working extra hard on his book lately. Working It is missing an auxiliary verb

Sentence fragment Example # 3: very late hours in the night and not getting enough sleep. She was working very late hours in the night and was not getting enough sleep. Working There is no subject-verb relationship

Activity 1: Correct the sentence fragments in the following 1. Some food spicy. 2. Corn my favourite vegetable. 3. Is very bright in the afternoon. 4. Takes a nap for two or three hours. 5. Eats rice. 6. There flowers in the market. 7. For example, the increase in the cost of living. 8. Having no money and being lonely in the city. 9. My Hotel Job My mother’s cousin owned a hotel, and I worked there as a young man. I enjoyed doing this work very much. Met many interesting people. One time a family come to stay in the hotel. My Wonderful Discovery After I had gotten up. I ate my breakfast. While I was eating breakfast. I heard a squeaking sound at my door. It was a little kitten that was crying. It was really cute. That I picked it up and took it inside in order to give the kitten a big bowl of warm milk and a soft blanket. I took the day off so that I could take her to the veterinarian. The vet told me she was fine. Because I had given her what he needed: milk and a warm blanket. She still needed a home. I asked all my friends to take her. They all wanted the little kitten. However, they couldn't keep pets in their apartments. By the time we got home. Now, she is my pet and friend.
