get [ ìrregular verb: get, got, go (or US gotten) ] = receive, obtain, become etc.: I got some new sunglasses. · How did you get that burn? Grammar patterns 1. get + NP: I am going to get some milk. 2. get + adjective: It’s getting late. 3. have + got: I’ve got a cat. 4. get + adverbial. What time did you get home? 5. get + NP + NP. Can you get me a coffee? 6. get + past participle. When did you get married? 7. get + NP + past participle. We’re getting the kitchen repainted. 8. get + NP + -ing. We’d better get moving. 9. get + to-infinitive. Did you get to se the ruins? 10. get + NP + to-infinitive. Can you get Tim to put away his things?

get Collocations get + past participle (grammar pattern 6). Some of the moost frequent past particples in this pattern are: rid (of), involved (in/with), married, started, dressed, stuck, lost. get + to-infinitive (grammar pattern 9): some of the most frequent infinitives are: to know, to hear, to see. get combines with adverb particles to form phrasal verbs: get away, get back, get in, get on, get out, get over, get up etc.

get Set phrases get it = understand. I don’t get it. Why has the traffic stopped? It gets me/what gets me is … = (it annoys me) I hate it when people correct my English. It really gets me. to get there= to achieve your goal: It’s not perfect but we are getting there.
