Treatment Malaria is a medical emergency that requires a hospital stay. Chloroquine is often used as an anti-malarial medication. However, chloroquine- resistant infections are common in some parts of the world.

Visitors will not have immunity, and should avoiding mosquito bites and take preventive medications. Antimalarial medications decrease the risk of developing symptomatic malaria. But they do not provide 100% protection against the disease. The type of antimalarial medication should use depends on the areas people will visit. No vaccine is available.
