Livestock are the main source of livelihood for the Somaliland people, job opportunities for more than 70% of the population and accounts for about 60% of GDP. Accounts for up to 85% of the total export earning. It contributes to government revenues and provides employment to a wide range of veterinary professional and other services. Somaliland is an important livestock export country and the main markets are the oil rich countries of the Arabian peninsula mainly Saudi Arabia. Sheep and goats exports were the largest before the ban of 2001. It has a good veterinary laboratory in a accordance of the international standards and OIE Regulations and the importing countries.
