Los Angeles is the largest city in California with almost 3,900,000 people. It is a great multiethnic center with a very large Hispanic population. Los Angeles Country, is the biggest in america with 12 million people. The port of Los Angeles is the busiest in the USA. Angelenos move around by car and traffic is always heavy. Since it rains very little, the smog increases in the air, making Los Angeles the most polluted city in America.

The first motion picture theater in California opened in Los Angeles in April 1902. In the early 1920s Los Angeles became well known for two of America’s most important industries: motion pictures and aircraft. Motion picture producers moved their studios from the East Coast to Los Angeles to take advantage of the excellent weather. Hollywood became the center for movie production. Seven important studios by the end of the 1920s had created the biggest motion picture industry in the world.

This was the «golden age» of Hollywood, where each studio employed thousands of actors, actresses, writers and costume designers. By the 1930s the exciting motion picture industry was simply called «Hollywood» and it produced 400 films a year.

Howard Hughes, one of America’s richest men and best pilots, founded the Hughes Aircraft Company in 1932 in Culver City. It became one of America’s biggest aircraft industries. In 1948 Hughes founded the Aerospace Group, which built Aircraft for travel, defanse and space exploration. Hughes was also an important Hollywood producer and director of films like Scarface and The Outlaw.

When people think Los Angeles the first thing that cames to mind is Hollywood and its stars. The best place to see more than 2.000 pointed stars is the Hollywood WALK OF FAME, a sidewalk along Hollywood. Inside each pink star on the sidewalk is the name of a celebrity.
