2.  Pablo was Born on July 12, 1904, in Parral, Chile. When Pablo was barely 15 years old, he became a published poet.  Pablo was named Ricardo Eliecer Neftalí Reyes. Changed his name to Pablo Neruda

3.  These and other activities brought her into conflict with Pinochet's government, which continually sought to curtail Neruda's influence.

4.  Neruda was invited to speak at the International PEN Conference in 1966 and, despite the fact that he was officially banned from the United States, he was granted a special visa to attend.  Chilean leader Pinochet tried to outlaw the public from attending Neruda’s funeral, but thousands of people broke curfew and attended anyway. This is considered the first public protest against Chilean dictators

5. He was a surrealist poet, probably the greatest Chile has ever produced -- reason why he got the 1971 Nobel Prize for Literature. He also had a political streak in him.
