Lesson 6—Slide 2 Is Paul talking about bishops/elders in this passage? (1 Th 5:12 NKJV) And we urge you, brethren, to recognize [appreciate, NASB] those who labor among you, and are over you [have charge over you, NASB] in the Lord and admonish you, Note: “over you” in I Th. 5:12 is the same word as “rule” in I Tim. 5:17. Lesson 6—Slide 12 From Chapter 5:12-28 Members of every congregation should get to know, appreciate, and respect their bishops/elders; members should remain at peace. Those who are “unruly”—out of order in conduct or doctrine—should be warned. Christians should patiently help the weak and not take personal revenge. Christian should live lives of rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks. Christians should distinguish between good and evil—and take the good, leave the evil.
