4 “Mentor” was the name of the man to whom Ulysses entrusted the care of his son, Telemachus, when he set out on his 20 year journey known as “The Odyssey”.

5 A brother put in his resignation within just 2 years of his joining a Lodge & when questioned why he put in his resignation…. This is what he had to say……

6 Look at the key points from his statement:  Didn’t really know what he was joining  Not sure what the first night was all about  Did not manage any visits to other Lodges

7  Confused when asked to leave the next meeting (2nd or 3rd degree?)  Felt embarrassed with his lack of knowledge  Became a Master Mason without understanding the ceremonies  Asked to Join Chapter, again, without any understanding

8 “Does any of this happen in my Lodge?” If we are truthful with ourselves, we may not like the answer.

9 Ask your Lodge Secretary for some Lodge statistics.  How many new members were initiated between 24 months previous to today's date and 12 months previous to today's date?  How many of those members attend the lodge on a regular basis, today?

10 A Masonic Mentor Program is the key to Masonic retention Earmark a Mentor for every candidate Each new candidate in your Lodge is the Lodge's future Teach and be taught. Help and be helped. Share information

11  A Past Master or an experienced MM  Who regularly attends the Lodge  Is actively involved in Lodge activity  Can reach out to Sr. brethren to help in an area beyond his expertise And Above all :  Have a genuine concern for the well being & progress of his “Mentee”
