The Preacher’s Duties to the Brethren Generally Instruct the brethren – I Tim. 4:6 Be an example to the brethren – I Tim. 4:12 In word – daily conversation In conduct – manner of living In love – always seek to promote the welfare of others In faith – obey the will of God without wavering In purity – carefully guarding thoughts, words, and actions

The Preacher’s Duties to the Brethren Specifically Teach the faithful (II Tim. 2:2) Correct the erring (II Tim. 2:25) Exhort older men as fathers (I Tim. 5:1) Exhort young men as brothers (I Tim. 5:1) Exhort older women as mothers (I Tim. 5:2) Exhort young women as sisters with all purity (I Tim. 5:2) Honor widows indeed (I Tim. 5:3) Charge the rich (I Tim. 5:3)

The Preacher’s Duties to the Brethren Specifically The Eldership: Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses (I Tim. 5:19) Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear (I Tim. 5:20) Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. (I Tim. 5:22) Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. (I Tim 5:17)
