January 2005Krystallia DRYSTELLA * PR team 18-22/4/2005 "3rd EGEE conference" The 3rd EGEE (www.eu-egee.org) project conference will be hosted by GRNET in Athens, Greece. EGEE led by the panEuropean Organisation CERN constitutes the most significant project in the area of Grid technologies. The EGEE project brings together experts from over 27 countries with the common goal of building on recent advances in Grid technology and developing a production-quality Grid infrastructure in Europe which is available to scientists 24 hours-a-day. The project aims to provide researchers in academia and industry with access to major computing resources, independent of their geographic location attracting a wide range of new users to the Grid. Today more than 50 sites have been integrated in the EGEE panEuropean infrastructure offering more than 8.000 CPUs and 5 Peta Bytes (5.000 Tera Bytes or 5.000.000 Giga Bytes) of storage space to more than 3.000 users of different application areas (High Energy Physics, Bioinformatics, etc.)

January 2005Krystallia DRYSTELLA * PR team 18-22/4/2005 "3rd EGEE conference“ (2/2) Funded by the European Commission with 32 Million Euros (total budget in the order of 100 Million), the EGEE project community has been divided into 12 partner federations, consisting of over 70 contractors and over 30 non-contributing participants covering a wide-range of both scientific and industrial applications. The conference will be a workshop based event, where many members from various EC Research Infrastructure Grid projects will participate to discuss key issues and work together to overcome known problems, to relay solutions and to discuss the potential problem areas with the next stage of the Project.
