2 EQ: What is the basic structure of DNA?
Deoxyribonucleic acid, genetic material Chromosomes are made of protein and DNA Gives instructions fro building and maintaining cells Copied each time a cell divides to make identical genes

3 Subunits of DNA Nucleotide 4 Bases of Nucleotide
Made of a sugar, a phosphate and a base Are identical except for the base Adenine (A) Thymine (T) Guanine (G) Cystosine (C)

4 Charguff’s Rules about DNA’s Bases
Shape of DNA The amount of adenine equals thymine The amount of guanine equals cytosine Twisted ladder Rungs of the ladder are made of pairs of bases Adenine with thymine Guanine with cytosine

5 EQ: How are copies of DNA made?
Replication Makes copies The pairing of bases allows for replication of DNA. Pairs of bases are complimentary to each other. So both sides of the ladder are complimentary.

6 During replication DNA molecule splits down the middle. The bases on each side of the molecule are used as a pattern for a new strand. Complimentary nucleotides are added to the original sides of DNA ladder. Two DNA molecules form. Half is new DNA, half is old
