3. Is a light source natural or man-made? Light sources can be man made or natural. This is a example of what I’m talking about: a torch is man made but the sun is natural, both are light sources but one is just man made and one is just natural. Another way to find out if it is a man-made light source or natural light source is to check if it is plugged into something or has a battery inside. If it is not plugged into something nor has battery in it, then it is a natural light source. Safety Tips: Do not look straight into a light source (especially the sun), your eyes will get damaged!!! Please do not play with a plug or socket. If you have wet hands, please do not touch a socket or battery because you could cause bad accidents and sometimes great damage.

4. What causes a shadow? When a light from a light source hits an opaque object, the object blocks the light which means that the light can’t pass through. The light that wasn’t blocked by the object it falls on the ground but the light that was blocked by the object makes a shadow. The more powerful the light the darker coloured shadow Try it out yourself!!! What you will need: a piece of card-board a torch a dark room ( you could put down the blinds and turn off the lights) 2 people or more What you need to do: ask somebody to hold up the piece of card near the wall for you but not too close. turn on the torch and shine it onto the piece of card (do not go too close to the card though) Ask your partner if they see a shadow of the card on the wall. If they say yes, you’ve made a shadow!!! If not, it may be because the room was not dark enough or your torches light was not bright enough. Take it in turns!

5. What is a pupil? There are two meanings for the word pupil but today we will learn about the eye pupil, here is a diagram of an eye. Light bounces off the object you see from the screen at the back of your eye, your brain turns that picture the right way round. Iris Pupil ( hole in your eye) Sclera Facts: Light can only travel in straight lines so when your picture you see hasn’t traveled to your brain yet, it’s upside down!!! Your pupil gets bigger when there is less light coming from the object your looking at. Screen ( retina)

6. Why doesn’t mom let me look at the sun? Well, the sun is a very powerful light source and can easily damage your eyes. Your parents don’t want you to look at the sun because they do not want you to get your eyes damaged. When your eyes get damaged, you may get blind or may have to wear glasses. Don’t stop going into the sun though because the sun provides vitamin D to your body and do not stay in the sun to long because you may get a painful sunburn or allergy. Facts: The sun has spots which are called sunspots. The sunspots keep the sun cool, sun spots are in a darker color than the sun itself. The sun seems to move but actually the earth is moving, not the sun! We have day and night because our earth rotates so the sun is not always facing that part of earth. Us! Earth The sun
