1 Choose a Picture

Not that wrinkled for an old man. Black leather jacket Grey stubble Missing teeth Sparkling blue eyes Squinting Dark eye brows Blue engineer’s hat 2 List Observable Facts:

He is a farmer. He is the boss-man on a rich guy’s farm. He is laughing. He has a pot-belly. 3 Use Imagination:

4Now Copy-and-paste your two Lists. Begin Transforming them into Sentences.

But what often happens with these first sentences? He was scrunching up his nose, squinting his eyes, and bulging up his red, rounded cheeks. He had few wrinkles on his face, except the joyful creases from the corners of his eyes. He was well fed but not fat; he carried a pudge beneath his dirty black leather jacket. Grey was in his stubble and his hair, but his brows still held the black shade of his youth. The blue sparkles deep in those squints had somehow refused age. He had on a blue denim engineer’s hat. They are often based on simple verbs! He was laughing at something, snickering and snorting, but barely twisting up his toothless mouth.

5Copy-and-paste the sentences. Move, rewrite, and rearrange the copied sentences so that they make a story. Replace simple verbs with action verbs.

Only one sentence is based solely on a simple verb! A little man, bent slightly, came over to us from the barn. He laughed at something, snickering and snorting, but barely twisting up his toothless mouth, but instead scrunching up his nose, squinting his eyes, and bulging up his red, rounded cheeks. The few wrinkles blessing his face were the joyful creases from the corners of his eyes. He nodded at me, still quietly laughing. Like most farmers in those parts he was well fed but not fat; he carried a pudge beneath his dirty blue Strong Action Verbs Dominate! windbreaker. His hand rubbed against the grey in stubble as he sized me up with a grin. Grey had conquered his hair, too, but the darker fleece of his brows still held the black shade of his youth, as though the blue sparkles deep in those squints had somehow refused age. He tugged on the bill of his blue denim engineer’s hat, nodded, and turned about. “He’ll do,” he rasped. “Come on.”
