2. Problem Statement Which brand of paper towel is the most absorbent?

3. Variables
Constant Variables: Tray Graduated cylinder 5ml of water at a time Funnel Deli container
Manipulated Variable: Brands of paper towels
Responding Variable: The paper towel that is the most absorbent.

4. Hypothesis:
If we test Bounty, Sparkle, Family Values, Clear Value, and the school’s paper towel, then Sparkle will be the most absorbent.

School’s paper towel
Clear Value paper towel
Water
Graduated cylinder
Tray
Funnel
Deli container

6. Procedures Pour 50ml of water in the graduated cylinder.
Pour the water in the cup.
Submerge a sheet of paper towel into the water.
Lift the paper towel out of the water and once it starts dripping slowly place it in the deli container.
Pour the water that is left in the cup into the graduated cylinder.
Measure the water.
Subtract the amount of water that is left from 50ml.
Record that number on your data table.
Repeat steps 1-8 using the SAME brand of paper towel.
Repeat steps 1-9 with the other brands of paper towel.

10. Results
Bounty absorbed 25ml of water. Clear Value absorbed 26ml of water. Family Values absorbed 15ml of water. Sparkle absorbed 22ml of water. The school’s paper towel absorbed 17ml of water. Finally, Kirkland absorbed 46ml of water.

11. Conclusion
Our hypothesis was not supported by our experiment. We thought Sparkle would have been the most absorbent, but Kirkland was the most absorbent. We realized that Kirkland was way bigger than all the other paper towels. It’s not fair. Next time we will cut them so that they are equal sizes.

12. Application
This experiment can help me in life because I know which paper towel to get. We can show our parents the data from our experiment to prove that Kirkland is the most absorbent paper towel.

14. Abstract
We wanted to find out which brand of paper towel is the most absorbent. We hypothesized that Sparkle would be the most absorbent. After we tested 6 different brands of paper towels, Kirkland was the most absorbent.
