Learning Objective: –Children to be made aware of what to do if they, or somebody else caught fire. –Children to be made aware of STOP, DROP, and ROLL.

STOP, DROP and ROLL Success Criteria: –Children will know what to do if they, somebody else catches fire. –Children will be able to carry out STOP, DROP and ROLL.

STOP, DROP and ROLL What do you think you would do if you or somebody else caught fire? Task: –In pairs share your ideas of what you think you would do. (Write your ideas down so that we can share them with the rest of the class).

STOP, DROP and ROLL STOP: Don’t run as you will fan the flames and make the fire worse. DROP: Lie down as quickly as possible so that the flame is not going to go up your face. ROLL : Roll on the ground repeatedly in order to extinguish the fire.

STOP, DROP and ROLL What else would you need to do? Get help and seek medical attention. Alert somebody to call an ambulance. Even minor burns need checking If you can’t perform SDR, use an item of clothing, towel or blanket to smother the flames. If somebody is in a wheelchair they may not be able to perform SDR. Somebody else will need to smother the flame with an item of clothing, towel or blanket.

STOP, DROP and ROLL Independent Activity: Get into groups of 3 or 4. –One of you will be the victim. –One will be a friend. –The third will be a passer-by. Act out a scenario where the person who catches fire performs STOP, DROP and ROLL. Make sure that fire is successfully extinguished and medical assistance is called for. Ensure that you all have a go at STOP, DROP and ROLL!
