Micro Fiber Cloths For station, restroom, and rig cleaning
2
What are micro fiber cloths – Micro fiber is a polyester and nylon (polyamide) fiber that is used to make fabric. – The fibers generate a static electric charge when moved across a surface that attracts dust and contains it, rather than spreading it around or releasing it into the air when dry dusting. – This makes it a superior tool for cleaning and germ removal because it is able to penetrate cracks and crevasses that cotton cloths or paper towels are not able to reach.
3
Benefits of micro fiber towels Effective at capturing microbes: Several studies have determined that micro fiber is better than cotton at capturing bacteria. The University of California, Davis Medical Center compared the amount of bacteria picked up by a cotton-loop towel and by a micro fiber towel. The cotton-loop towel reduced bacteria on surfaces by 30%, whereas the micro fiber towel reduced bacteria by 99%.
4
Benefits of micro fiber towels Prevents cross-contamination: Micro fiber cloths and mops are available in different colors so that a color-coding system can be implemented for specific uses. For instance, in bathrooms a yellow cloth can be used, green cloths can be used for office & kitchen cleaning, and red for interior apparatus cleaning.

SPFR Comprehensive Cleaning and Infection Control Program 1) Identify, clean, and disinfect high- touch non-porous surfaces (e.g., doorknobs and TV remote control) and high-touch areas (e.g., gym) in the fire house that are touched by a variety of hands.
6
SPFR Comprehensive Cleaning and Infection Control Program Use an EPA-registered product effective against the germ you are concerned about, such as MRSA. Our use of Cavicide is approved and safe to use with our micro fiber towels. All our cleaning supplies are safe to use with the micro fiber towels, except for bleach.
7
SPFR Comprehensive Cleaning and Infection Control Program 3) Wash micro fiber only with other micro fiber materials because it can pull the lint out of cotton or other materials during the washing and drying process. Use only laundry detergent, NOT bleach.
8
Green Micro Fiber Towels Only to be used for dayroom, kitchen, bedroom, gym, and office use. General purpose use only. Clean all non-porous high touched surfaces and object 1.
9
Yellow micro fiber towels Only to be used for restroom cleaning! Clean all non-porous high-touched surfaces and objects. 1.
10
Red micro fiber towels Only to be used for medic unit and engine cleaning purposes only. Used to sterilize all touchable surfaces in the patient compartment, front of medic unit, and interior engine cabs. (with cavicide) Highest level of positive testing MRSA above normal community acquired levels are the medic unit seatbelts. 1.
11
Disinfecting pointers Use separate towels to disinfect the patient compartment in medic unit and the front cab. Do not cross contaminate. Start from the cleanest area and move towards the dirtiest. Do not use micro fiber towels to clean any type of floors.
