9 P ATENTS  The United State Patent and Trademark Office has educational material for students.  Inventnow is a game for students to use to invent a product and start the patent application. 15 T EXAS B ASE Cut base to 9 1/2” x 9 1/2” square size using radial arm saw. Use oversized pattern to draw layout, cap and hole placement on base. Use 2” hole saw to cut out cap. Cut out shape on band saw or scroll saw. Drill holes in base using drill press. Attach finishing jig to bottom of base with screws. Use router with a straight bit to cut base to final size. 19 C AP Using jig to hold cap, sand edges using disk sander. Use the non slip router pad to hold the cap and rout both edges using a router and round over bit on. Sand cap with 120 grit sand paper. 20 A SSEMBLY Mount rubber bumpers or felt pads to cover the holes on bottom of base made when attaching finish jig. Glue post into 1” hole on base. Install screw into 1/8” hole from underneath side. Glue tear bar into 3/8” hole in base. Allow glue to dry. Inspect and sand again if necessary. Finish project using approved finish materials. 20 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012.
