2. Each student must successfully pass the hands-on skills demonstration, which involves: Pre-job planning Proper torch assembly Safe work practices Shutting down a torch Fire Watch

3. Students shall work in pairs to complete seven hands-on exercises: Pre-Job Planning Starting a new roll at a wall using torch and flop Install a target patch using torch and flop Install a roll over a pipe vent using torch & flop Flash a curb using torch and flop Flash a curb using small detail torch Shut down torch properly

ASSEMBLY REVIEW 1.Connect regulator to hose; 2.Connect regulator to cylinder; 3.Release a small amount of gas to remove any debris that may have been accumulating in the hose while in storage; 4.Attach the hose to the torch head; 5.With torch head closed, crack valve on cylinder to permit a small amount of pressure to build up in hose; 6.Using soap/water solution, check all connections for bubbles which would indicate a leak is present; 7.Close the valve on the cylinder before retightening all of the connections.

7. #2 Starting a New Roll at the Wall Thermal barrier is present ( ¾” Perlite, ¾” Fiberglass or ¼” Gypsum Board) Back rolls membrane 6 feet away from edge and positions in place Evenly applied heat to back of membrane without burning sheet Lifts corners using trowel and flops into place Sheet is stepped or broomed into place Laps checked with towel for proper seal Flame is never directed at wall penetrations or substrate or used to reheat sheet

8. #3 Installing a Target Patch Over Drain Thermal barrier is present ( ¾” Perlite, ¾” Fiberglass or ¼” Gypsum Board) Places pre-measured target patch over non-combustible substrate, away from drain Pre-cuts fingers (if applicable) Evenly applied heat to back of membrane without burning sheet Lifts corners using trowel and flops into place Presses target patch firmly into place Laps checked with towel for proper seal Flame is never directed at drain or used to reheat sheet once flopped in place

9. #4 Installing a Roll Over a Pipe Vent Thermal barrier is present ( ¾” Perlite, ¾” Fiberglass or ¼” Gypsum Board) Stops advancing roll prior to reaching vent pipe Dry measures vent pipe location – -cuts membrane out of sheet Flips sheet over exposing bottom of membrane Evenly applied heat to back of membrane without burning sheet Lifts corners using trowel and flops membrane around pipe and presses into place Laps checked with towel for proper seal Flame is never directed at vent pipe or used to reheat sheet once flopped in place

10. #5 Flashing Around a Curb – Torch and Flop Base ply mechanically fastened to substrate Pre-cut sheets are dry fit and flanges cut Flips sheet over exposing bottom of membrane Evenly applied heat to back of membrane without burning sheet Lifts corners using trowel and flops membrane around curb and presses into place Laps checked with towel for proper seal Flame is never directed at penetration / cant strip or used to reheat sheet once flopped in place

11. #6 Flashing Around a Curb – Small Detail Torch Thermal barrier is present (one layer of peel & stick modified sheet with air impermeable laps.) Pre-cut sheets are dry fit and flanges cut Switches to small detail torch (less than 105,000 BTU’s) Evenly applied heat to membrane without burning sheet Lifts corners using trowel and presses into place Laps checked with towel for proper seal Flame is never directed at penetration / cant strip or used to reheat sheet once flopped in place
