Festive greetings to all. The end of another busy year is upon us and I hope everyone is relaxed and in the Christmas spirit. For me the year has flown past again but from the club's point of view it has been a successful one. Numbers in the club have increased and 2010 should be a bumper year with 32 members entered into Comrades. There have been numerous highlights this year- Ashtonvale, the Sani marathon weekend, our race were greats events and of course the “I will walk for Kristi " campaign has kicked off in a way that no one thought possible. We are well on our way to achieving our target amount of R56800- we have over twenty two thousand rand banked or pledged already. Thank you to all that have given so generously- the Christmas spirit is really upon us. For those of you that pledged your training and support I will be sending out a reminder in January just to keep you all on track. It just remains for me to wish everyone a very blessed Christmas and an exciting 2010 See you on the road Stephen Words From The Chair

Club Captain’s Comment A lot has been achieved this year by this great and crazy club of ours, with many highlights throughout the year, thanks to our dynamic committee chaired by our very own Steve. All kudos to Fred for once again putting on a world-class show with The BMG Stainbank Cup, and to Dave for our awesome sponsorship. That is normally the culmination of our year and we can wind down and really kick off the silly season with a bang at Westville. However, this year has seen the birth, and subsequent phenomenal growth, of something that to me is truly unique in my almost 20 years of running. Our association with Kristi, and the unbelievable response we’ve had in such a short space of time has been incredibly special, and a testimony to all that is good in mankind. I am truly blessed! Thanks to all concerned. I wish you all a peaceful Christmas of loving and sharing with your family and friends, and a New Year of health and success in all avenues of your life. KEEP RUNNING THIS CHRISTMAS Maintaining a regular running schedule is hard enough, but throw in some parties, food preparation, out-of-town guests, and other holiday craziness, and it may seem near impossible to find time for runs. Here are some tips to help you keep running this festive season. Schedule your runs Your calendar gets more packed during the holiday season but you should try to make running a priority (especially since Comrades is just around the corner). Take a look at your week and write down when you think you’ll be able to squeeze in a run just like you would your appointments, If you have runs scheduled, you’ll be more likely to get them done. Enjoy summer This is the perfect time of the year for morning runs. If you know you won’t be able to fit in your run in the evening, set your alarm clock an hour earlier. You’ll enjoy your function more knowing that you’ve had your run for the day. Be prepared for a home workout Create a home workout for those days you can’t get to a gym. You don’t need fancy equipment for simple push ups, crunches, lunges, squats, etc… Redefine your workout Be flexible with your runs. Remember a 20 minute run is better than no run at all, so don’t skip the run because you won’t have time to run what you had originally planned. Even doing a short run will help you maintain your running habit during the holidays.

Run a holiday race Having an upcoming race will help keep you motivated and continue running. Get the family to join you so you can have some holiday fun together. (Westville Christmas Challenge – 13 Dec) Don’t sweat a missed run Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t have time for a run. Just because you missed a run, don’t use it as an excuse to throw in the towel for the rest of the holiday season. Get right back on your programme, forget about the missed run and move on. With love, Megan xoxo
