The Ontario Power Authority The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is a government-created organization that coordinates province-wide conservation efforts, plans the electricity system for the long term, and contracts for clean electricity resources. The save ON energy Program The save ON energy program for homes provides a range of incentives to help homeowners make energy saving choices. These range from: coupons on efficient products, rebates on heating and cooling, the pick-up of old fridges, freezers, and dehumidifiers The OPA and saveONenergy saveONenergy FRIDGE & FREEZER PICKUP

Electricity measurements Before we go any further, let’s stop to review some basic energy measurement terms. Watt (W) Measures the rate of energy transfer Kilowatt (kW) 1000 watts Kilowatt hour (kWh) What customers get billed for at home: a unit of energy equivalent to one kilowatt (1 kW) of power expended for one hour (1 h) of time Electricity, Ontario, and Sears saveONenergy FRIDGE & FREEZER PICKUP
6
Electricity supply in Ontario There is about 34,079 MW of installed generation in Ontario's electricity market. Electricity in Ontario comes from many different sources: All of these sources have risks associated with them. For example: coal involves pollution in mining and use, nuclear energy also has issues with mining and dealing with waste, and renewables don’t yet make up enough of the power supply here. Electricity conservation in Ontario Energy conservation means using less. When we conserve energy, we reduce the need to build new sources of energy, or energy generating capacity. By conserving energy, we become less reliant on riskier sources of energy and reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. Electricity, Ontario, and Sears saveONenergy FRIDGE & FREEZER PICKUP

Why saving energy matters to Sears Sears Canada is committed to cutting our carbon footprint in half and helping our customers do the same. We set out to reduce the carbon footprint of retail operations by 20% below 2007 levels by 2013, and are on track to meet this target early. We completed the largest ever LED-spotlight retrofit, replacing 116,000 of our incandescent spotlights, saving 20 MWh annually. That’s enough electricity for 240,000 families to run high efficiency washing machines for a year! Sears is proud to be Canada’s leading retailer of major appliance and we recognize that these products consume a lot of energy. Sears is committed to offering its customers environmentally preferable products and fostering a culture of sustainability with its associates. As a result of our efforts, we’ve been named the ENERGY STAR Retailer of the Year 5 times in a row by the Government of Canada. Electricity, Ontario, and Sears saveONenergy FRIDGE & FREEZER PICKUP
