3 Introduction Japan population is 127,692 million with 22% of them are over 65 years old Mobile phone user is 110.395 million (86.6%) Increasing number of elderly people Advanced new technology of mobile phone industry Overwhelming for the elderly people because of new features Producing a mobile phone that can be use by the elderly people easily. 01 Introduction · 02 · 03 · 04 · 05 · 06 · 07 · 08 3 /18

4 Observation A lot of mobile phone shop selling up-to-date models in Japan. On the train, the passenger normally will read a book, sleep or stick to their mobile phone, either playing games, listening to music or busy texting. But for elderly people, most of them comes in groups and does not use mobile phone as the youngsters do. Sometimes, elderly is seen using mobile phone with difficulty. Required to upgrade their phone because of the advancement in telecommunication technologies. 6 Findings : Button Problem Can’t see buttons clearly. Most cell phones get good design but useless for elderly people. Along with scientific and technological progress cell phone get smaller and humanization. For example, iphone. They get very good physical design you can’t input easily. 7 Findings : Volume Problem Sometimes when the calls in, elderly people cannot hear phone ring. Even forget about the silent mode. For example, iPhone have mic in the lower right corner and the speaker in the lower left corner. In case the phone rings, the highest volume won’t be that high enough to hear. 8 Findings : New Trends of Functions Lots of new functions and applications in the new model. Elderly people only need basic functions. Even some people do not like the 3*3 menu and think that is very limited to use. 10 Findings : Generation Gap cont.. This is one type of cell phone for the elderly people. It has huge keys and can be controlled by voice. Like calling voice messages.
