The population of Madhya Pradesh is more than that of many countries like Thailand, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Myanmar and South Africa. Its population is slightly lower than that of countries like Iran, Turkey and Germany. The population of Madhya Pradesh is higher than the combined population of Australia, Sri lanka and Afghanistan Sixteen countries in the world have population more than that of Madhya Pradesh. Growth rate and Decadal Change in Population :2001-2011 MADHYA PRADESH Population of M.P. grew by 20.3% during 2001-11, against 24.3% in the previous decade Highest decadal growth in population has been recorded in Indore (32.9%) 20 districts have recorded population growth above state average growth of 20.3%. Lowest decadal growth in population has been recorded in Anuppur (12.3%) INDIA Population of India grew by 17.7% during 2001-11, against 21.5% in the previous decade Among the major States, highest decadal growth in population has been recorded in Bihar (25.4%) 14 States/UTs have recorded population growth above 20%. 30

Density of Population : 2001-2011 INDIA Delhi (11,320) turns out to be the most densely inhabited followed by Chandigarh (9,258), among all States/UTs, both in 2001 and 2011 Census. The minimum population density works out in Arunachal Pradesh (17) for both 2001 and 2011 Census. MADHYA PRADESH Bhopal (855) turns out to be the most densely populated district followed by Indore (841), among all districts in 2011 Census. The density of a few countries is presented in the statement to understand the trend prevailing in various parts of the world. The density of India is two and half times more as compared to China, the most populated country. The density of Madhya Pradesh is 1.7 times more as compared to China. However, the density in many European, African and American countries are comparatively lower than India as well as Madhya Pradesh. In 18 countries in the world, the density is higher compared to India.
