It was quiet … too quiet. That could only mean it was just another normal day. I am Marshal Bruce Mather III and I am from Detroit Michigan. Everyone knows me as Eminem.
7
I was born on October 17,1972, and my dad was in my life until I was eighteen months old. Then, he left me and my mom. My mom didn’t have any money, and I grew up very poor. Sadly, we didn’t have anything.

For part of my life, I carried around a garbage bag with my clothes in it and stayed were I could--- anywhere from one of my friend’s house to living on the streets. My home life was very bad. It was very rough, so I started going to the studio recording and performing music.
11
At first, it was just for fun, but I had to become serious. I found out that this is going to be my career. I dropped out of high school. Then, I flew out to California and saw Dr. Drea, a famous rap singer and my ROLE MODEL. He got me a contract and into the rapping career. Even though, I made some mistakes earlier in my life, the most important thing to me is my daughter.
13
It was the best thing that had ever happened to me, when I got a contract. Before I signed the contract, I just had a dishwashing job, and I didn’t know how I was going to support my baby daughter.
15
Growing up in a big city is very hard. I got in a lot of fights, I saw a lot of people get hurt, and I saw a lot of gang violence.
17
I’m NOT AFRAID. I survived every day of my life, from getting jumped at school to being in a coma. Worst of all, I saw my best friend brutally attacked. There was NO LOVE. I did not know where I was going to end up at the end of the day or even in the next minute or hour.
19
My advice to you: Don’t hit ROCK BOTTOM You have to get through life each second, each minute, each hour. It was very hard for me not to get in trouble because I was a follower and not a leader. SING FOR THE MOMENT!

THIS IS THE WAY I AM Now that I'm forty years of age, I realize I have to become a leader and stop following. You can’t act like a child your whole life. You have to grow up sometime.

My daughter, Hailey is sixteen and I have stopped getting into trouble. I have changed my life for the better. I'm still pursuing my career. I just don’t make music now, I'm also an actor. Thanks for reading the story I wrote about Marshal Bruce Mather III aka Eminem.
