DEFINITIONS Serious Violence – This includes Murder, Attempted Murder, Wounding or other act endangering life, Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Causing Death by Careless Driving when under the influence of drinks or drugs, Causing Death by Careless and Inconsiderate Driving and Causing Death by Aggravated Vehicle Taking. Serious Youth Violence – Same as above and includes both of the weapon enabled crimes as detailed below where the victim is below the age of 20. Youth Violence – Any offence of Serious Violence, Weapon Enabled Crime and Assault with injury where the victim is under the age of 20. Knife Enabled Crime – Violence against the person (Excluding offensive weapon), Sexual Offences, Burglary or Robbery where a knife or bladed instrument was used in the commission of the crime. Gun Enabled Crime - Violence against the person (Excluding offensive weapon), Sexual Offences, Burglary or Robbery where a firearm was used in the commission of the crime.

PERFORMANCE MPS Standing shows position within the 32 London Boroughs in terms of number of crime victims. 1st being worst with the most victims and 32 nd being best with fewest victims.

Nearly all offences take place between 1500 and 2000hrs Male victims and suspects of all ethnicities Late Night Area Violence – Mainly Assault with Injury (ABH) Friday to Sunday accounts for 80% of the incidents 0000 to 0400hrs is the peak time range White Male victims and male suspects of all ethnicities Knife Crime Hotspot Friday is peak day followed by Tuesday. 2 peak periods – 1400 to 1730 and 2000 to 0000hrs Mainly Male victims of all ethnicities and Black Male suspects 14 to 20yrs

KEY VARIABLES STATISTICS – 452 offences over a 3 month period which breaks down into the following classifications - DAYS – The peak day of offending is Saturday with 22% of all offences TIME – The prominent time range is 1600 and 1959hrs where 30% of all incidents occur. VICTIMS– 75% of victims are Male, 41% are White and 35% are Black. Two significant age ranges are identified 14 to 18 and 23 to 32yrs. SUSPECTS – 70% are Male, 44% Black and 24% White. A large proportion of the suspects are aged between 15 to 25yrs old DRIVERS – It is difficult to quantify the extent that substance misuse plays as a generator of Violence, although it is believed to be around the 40% mark. MEDIA STRATEGY OBJECTIVES To maintain effective communication with the local community and local media to address concerns and issues raised during and after the trial and keep partner agencies informed. To deliver a corporate message to the public and local media, working with partner agencies. To reinforce the message of police and partner agency professionalism when dealing with critical incidents. To reassure the community that Hackney is a safe place to live, work and visit, therefore managing the fear of crime in communities.
