Good Bibliographies Give credibility to your thesis. Improve your paper. Provide points for others to check Prove that you have done research Give Credit to sources for ideas and words Avoid unintentional Plagiarism Expulsion Failing the paper or class Wasting time and effort.

Pretend you are writing an address in “snail mail” Start with the lesser item (chapters, articles, etc. Move to the greater item Title of Book, journal, editors, etc. Give State (publisher for book) Add the “Zip codes” (dates, pages, etc.) Follow the punctuation and abbreviation rules laid out by “post office” (Manual)

Setting the Stage 1. Find out what form you will be required to use. 2. Purchase your own copy if at all possible. Use the index of the book for efficiency.

Prevent nasty aches and pains 1. Prepare Bib card directly from the source before you take notes. Discover any problems. Writing the reference page will be easy! 2. Take good notes and always link to a source! Number or Letter your resources you use and link any notes to the number E.g. A 15 would be resource A, p. 15.

The Book Format usually contains: Author (Last name, first name or initial.) Complete Title Place of Publication Publisher (Often shortened) Publication Date
