4 Conclusions from Day Review Many service users considered their day services to be ‘life savers’ providing peer support and structure to day. 30 – 50% of people with severe mental health problems are unemployed and do not have structured day activity Building based drop in services are segregated and do not support integration Building based services do not meet the needs of young people, women or the black and minority ethnic population.

5 Proposed model – 08/09 Rethink RISE will pilot reducing the opening times of building based services by over 50% but maintaining a presence at all three sites Rethink RISE use existing resource to pilot the development of community bridge builders (up to 5 WTE posts), strengthen befriending service by 2 WTE and employment specialists by 2 WTE. Southend Mind pilot the development of the community bridge builders (up to 3.5 WTE) and community development worker (0.5 WTE) SEPT will develop plans to concentrate on the development of the therapeutic aspects of the Queensway Resource Therapy Centre Evaluation points at 1 st April 08 and 31 st September 2009

6 Conclusions from Employment Review Key ingredients in place but no clear pathway back to work Funding for Castle Point and Rochford employment specialist is due to end in June 2007 Chasm between voluntary and statutory sector Insufficient work focus within supported employment project (Rethink Hadleigh)

7 Proposed model – 08/09 Clear pathway 4.5 employment specialists within clinical teams Supported employment projects offering time limited support and work focussed stepping stone Supported employment projects becoming social enterprises Evaluation points 1 st April 2008 and 31 st September 2009
