5. Some of the main contraventions of the Code of Conduct Disruptive and distracting behaviour in class i.e. Teacher cannot teach other learners cannot get on with their work

6. Arrogance and Disrespect to Teachers Learners must follow instructions May write a grievance to the Principal Cannot refuse to carry out an instruction if they believe they are “innocent”, and Use of unacceptable language on tone of voice

9. Bunking: Bunking school – come to school and disappear Bunking classes Not attending compulsory extra classes Purposefully missing tests

12. Theft: Theft is a big issue Parent not allowed to intervene on school property School accepts no responsibility Try to investigate but very complicated NB:- Legal rights of parents and learners

13. Cell Phones May not use during class times R20- fine if caught (may be confiscated) Do not want to ban Cannot accept responsibility for theft Phones disappear once stolen

14. SBA Count 25% to 50% of Final exams in Grade 10 to Grade 12 Count 75% of Final promotion mark in Grade 8 and Grade 9 Many learners do not do their SBA work We give the a warning and a further 3 days After that time the Headmaster approves zero (0) for the task Dishonesty with SBA and exams

15. Corrective Measures Minor offences in class – Teachers keep a notebook After 3 “bookings” or verbal warnings a demerit is sent in. Learners sign their demerits Time consuming – warning not to waste convenor’s time

17. Points awarded for various transgressions When learners get a certain number of points (usually 10) parents are phoned. When points get to around 30, parents are called in for an internal hearing. Continuous transgressions – SGB hearing Demerits:

18. Hearings: Internal SMT Hearing: attendance compulsory Exam Committee Hearings: for exam transgression SGB Disciplinary Hearings – extreme cases NB School Disciplinary Hearings must not be confused with Labour Law Hearings

The Principal may remove a learner from school (for safety reasons) if: Learner causes major disturbances in school Perceived to be a threat to themselves or others Possession of a dangerous weapon Under influence of, or selling, or in possession of any illegal substance Time of removal will depend on circumstances Safety Act:

20. CAUSING PROBLEMS ON SCHOOL ORGANIZED BUSES WILL LEAD TO PERMANENT REMOVAL FROM SUCH BUSES School Buses
