Some words that begin with the letter I that we need to avoid.
2
Introduction The Bible contains many warnings. The Bible contains many admonitions. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 includes reproof and correction. Sometimes a sharp rebuke is in order There are many things we are warned to avoid. Let us look at some that begin with the letter I.
3
Ignorance Hosea 4:6 Ignorance resulted in the crucifixion of Christ. Acts 3:17 cause them to crucify Him. 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 ignorance blinded them to the truth. 1 Timothy 1:13-15 Other persecution came from ignorance
4
Ignorance Is no longer tolerated by God. Acts 17:30 God wants all men to come to a knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Romans 10:17-21. Israel should have known. Ignorance will never be allowed as an excuse for anything.
5
Ignorance Leads to rebellion against God Eph 4:17-20 vanity, blindness, lasciviousness… 1 Peter 1:4 they way they once lived. Romans 10:14 Trying to establish their own righteousness 2 Peter 3:5 willingly ignorant, scoffers. etc
6
Ignorance The remedy is a simple one. Readiness if mind, searching, seeking Acts 17:11 2 Timothy 2:15 study, be diligent---attitude 2 Peter 1:5 diligence to apply and add knowlede to your faith.
7
Iniquity Violation of law, transgression of law, illegal, wickedness, unrighteousness, going beyond the bounds of the law. Iniquity will never be acceptable with God. In the church Matthew 13:41 Among religious leaders Matthew 23:28 God loved righteousness, hated iniquity Hebrews 1:9
8
Iniquity 1 John 3:4 sin is transgression of law Matthew 7:23 depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.. Some remain in sin without wanting to change. Romans 2:5 hardness of heart, impenitent. Romans 1:31 Imblacable
9
Iniquity The solution is simple. The way to be free from iniquity is through forgiveness. Romans 2:7 iniquities forgiven Titus 2:14 redeem us from all iniquity Hebrews 8:12 remember our sins no more Must accept God’s pardon on God’s terms.
10
Iniquity Once freed from iniquities we must avoid them. We must watch and be careful. Matthew 26:41 watch that ye enter not into temptation Mark 13:37 Unto all He says watch Acts 20:31 Ephesian elders were told to watch.
11
Idleness The idle word will judge us in the last day The fruits of idleness are nothing good 1 Timothy 5:13 Tattlers, bearing tales that should not be repeated Busybodies involving selves in other men’s matters Sticking nose where it don’t belong.
12
Idleness Uncontrolled in speech and conduct The person who is idle is often tempted because they are not filling their lives with good. Fill your thoughts with spiritual thoughts and there will be no reason for the flesh to take over. Idleness when opportunity exists is sin James 4:17
13
Imaginations Luke 1:51 Mary’s statement The proud have imaginations In other words their own thinking instead of God’s thinking. The proud have these. They imagine they are better than others. It originates in their hearts.
14
Imaginations The imaginations of men are contrary to God. There is a way which seems right Proverbs 16:25. God’s word will cast them down 2 Corinthians 10:5
15
Imaginations What might we have? We are fine even though we do not obey. Our feelings determine right and wrong for us. Doing part of what God wants should be enough to get us to heaven. God will accept anything we offer to Him. Anyone who says otherwise is a troublemaker.
16
Idolatry Never has been acceptable to God Those who practice it will not inherit the kingdom of God 1 Corinthians 6:9 They have their part in the lake of fire Revelation 21:8 1 Corinthians 10:7 don’t practice idolatry 1 Corinthi8ans 10:14 flee idolatry
17
Idolatry We do not bow down before a man-made image of any sort. But we can still practice idolatry. Anything that commands our attention more than God is an idol. Covetousness bows to material things. Colossians 3:5 covetousness is idolatry Anything can become an idol
18
Conclusion Ignorance Iniquity Idleness Imaginations Idolatry But involved in all of these are two more words that have the “I”. Pride and Sin. We have discussed them and given the remedies. Will you turn your life towards God?
