It’s my money; I earned it. I have too much debt to give right now. Giving is bad stewardship if it eats away at my savings and investments. I already give with my time and energy. Tithing is OT; this is NT Hush! Tithing is secret not public God loves a cheerful giver & I’m not, so I shouldn’t give I am too poor to give God doesn’t need money I give to other ministries and charities instead of my church (Answers to these and more can be found at www.generousgiving.org)

Robbing God Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me. But you say, “How have we robbed You?” In your tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8 Bring the full tithe…and put me to the test says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:10

What Does “Tithe” Mean? Tithe literally means “tenth” (or 10%)

Old & New Testament Tithing Old Testament Tithing First 10% to God for priests Another 10% for community and celebration Another 3.3% to the poor Crop gleanings for poor Occasional extra tithes Over 25% Gross Income To God and Ministry New Testament Tithing Spice Rack Tithing (Mt. 23:23)

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. (Matthew 23:23)

23:23) Widow’s Two Coins (Mk. 12:42-44) Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) Church Yard Sales (Acts 4:32-37) Ephesian Bonfire (Acts 19:19) Rich Men & Camels (Mt. 19:21-26)

Jesus said to him…“go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven…it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:21-24)

The Old Testament tithe (10%) is the FLOOR for New Testament Giving; not the CEILING Tithing is a demonstration of the grace of God and love for God in our heart.

Divine Heart Surgery God Owns Everything; We Manage His Money The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Ps. 24:1) The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine declares the Lord Almighty (Hag. 2:8) Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth (Deut. 8:18)

Divine Heart Surgery Our Heart Goes Where We Allocate God’s Money Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

Divine Heart Surgery Tithing Proves Our Love For God & What He Loves See that you excel is this grace also. I say this not as a command, but to prove… that your love is genuine (2 Cor. 8:7-8) Give proof before the churches of your love (2 Cor. 8:24) Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her (Eph. 5:25)

Divine Heart Surgery Giving Conforms Us To Jesus And Frees Us From Idolatry For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich (2 Cor. 8:9) You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way…producing thanksgiving to God (2 Cor. 9:11)

A Generous Heart Declares the Gospel You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God…. They will glorify God because of your submission flowing from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution…because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift! (2 Corinthians 9:11-15)
