The Reality of Sin Sin is: is an offense against God Is a choosing of self over God Is a disobedient revolt against God’s love? Is any free and deliberate act, word, thought, or desire that turns us away from God’s law to love.

The Reality of Sin There is much evidence of the existence of sin in the world today. Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins.

Different Kinds of Sin Original sin All humans are born into the disharmonious situation of our world to which we are all subject.

It is human nature in a fallen state (cf. Rom 5:12-19) We have inherited this condition from our first parents The results are: 1.Human nature is weakened or wounded by being deprived of original holiness and justice. 2.We are subject to ignorance, suffering and death. 3.We are inclined to sin (concupiscence). see CCC 396-405 The CCC on Original Sin

Seven Capital Sins Pride – excessively high opinion of oneself Greed – desire for earthly goods Envy – sorrow over another’s good fortune Anger – desire for revenge Lust – craving for sexual pleasure Gluttony – immoderate consumption of food or drink Sloth – laziness
