4. MANUAL TRANS n Purpose to keep engine in normal operating RPM range. n Manual transmissions and transaxles are fundamentally the same. n Can change gear ratios and reverse direction. n Transaxle includes differential in same housing. CBC AUTOMOTIVE RK

5. SLIDING GEAR TRANS n Sliding spur gears. n Gears go in & out of mesh. –If gear speeds are different grinding will occur. –Typically used for reverse in both transmissions and transaxles. Page 69
