A lever is a simple machine where when you push down on one end the other end goes up. Some examples are a scale, a baseball bat, a broom, a rake, a see- saw, and pry bar.

An inclined plane is a ramp that you can get you and other objects up and down using less force. Some examples are a skate board ramp, a wheel chair ramp, stairs, and a ladder.

A pulley is a simple machine that makes it easier to lift heavy objects. To make it work you pull the rope and the object will lift up. Some examples are window blinds, a flag pole, a rock climbing pulley, and a sale boat mast.

* A wheel and axle makes it easier to turn things. It works by when you turn the wheel the axle turns with it. Some examples are a car or bicycle wheel, a door knob, a steering wheel, a rolling pin, an old fashion pencil sharpener, and a electric fan.

* A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a pole. It holds things together when you tighten it to the object. Some examples of screws are bolts, a cork screw, lids of jars, and drills.

* A wedge is made up of two inclined planes. A wedge is usually used to cut things. Some examples of wedges are an axe, a knife, and a chisel.
