The Royal Family plays a big role in the lives of many British people, and is a major symbol of the British culture. Monarchy is the oldest form of government in the United Kingdom The origins of constitutional monarchy in Britain go back a long way Constitutional monarchy is a form of government in which a king or queen acts as Head of State. The Royal Family lives in the Buckingham palace in London The British Royal Family‘s surname is Windsor.

At the present time, the queen is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is the head of state of the United Kingdom, and also 15 other parts of the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth is the eldest daughter of King George the VI and Queen Elizabeth; she was born in 1926. Elizabeth was crowned queen at the age of 25. During her five decade long rule, Elizabeth has seen ten prime ministers and a lot of change and reform in her country.

The most well known interest and hobby of the Queen are horses. The Queen's first visit to the Czech Republic was in 1996. The Queen is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and has four children and eight grandchildren.

Prince Charles is the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 He was officially made 'Prince of Wales' in 1969. Diana‘s wedding to Charles, heir to the British throne, was held at St Paul's Cathedral and seen by a global television audience of over 750 million. The marriage produced two sons, the princes William and Harry. The marriage was not happy and in 1996 they got divorced In August 1997 Diana died in a car crash in Paris

Prince William married his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Middleton, on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. He is second in the line of succession, behind his father, to the throne. He is the oldest son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and third eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
