Children in the 17th century were taught by their parents or by some one there parents paid to teach them. If your parents were poor and uneducated usually so were you. Learning The children also had to be taken away from their work to learn. In a time where you had to work to live or die, this wasn’t the best idea. The main things you would learn about had to do with religion, you need to read the bible, talk to others, etc… If you were the heir you had to learn calculations so you don't drive the business into the ground.

Jasper A clergyman came to his house, taught Jasper and his brother Tom. Throughout this book Jasper is saved by the fact that he can write. The people of his ship and his elders see him more important because of this. Further on in his journal you learn that the Indians see this as a great and powerful trate, so they let him live. Without the fact he could write we wouldn't know much about him.

No native language had a written language (besides Maya). This is a really crazy thing to think about how would that work? Well it worked because the didn't need to write the would talk in person all the time and travel to talk to other tribes. Native american Writing

The pilgrims didn't know much about Virginia, on arrival they saw an Indian with a dog and didn't know how to react by the time he saw them he ran. They know that winter was coming but they wouldn't expect for so many of them to die. The new land

The indians taught the pilgrims a lot about survival. By the end of this they are like Bear Grylls (survival part). They learn how to plant crops, how to fish a lot more efficiently, And show them how to efficiently use all the animal parts. Without the indians teaching the pilgrims would have died out just like a lot of the people before them. Jasper learned a lot from the indians. He learned about the world from a new perspective and that everything has a purpose. Indian teachings
